IS IT SAFE TO SELL ART?

Updated: Feb 16

I know that selling is what artists do to earn money. It is also a way for them to boost their egos and judge how well known they are. As you might know, I am a fine artist that works in several mediums and am pretty well seen and sold worldwide. But the last few years have scared me as far as selling and making money on my art goes. Why? SCAMS and AI. I receive emails, calls , and notices asking me to put my work in this book or billboard or I get offers for thousands of dollars to sell the work as NFT'S. At first, I was flattered as any artist would be. And I still have a few trusted artists and collectors that I will agree to show or buy my work. But several things have changed the way I see the world and I include the art world in this. The first is about artists and art themselves. When an animal's art, whether real or AI, goes for more than most famous artists then doesn't that knock down my image as a human artist? And what about the kids making millions of dollars and owning their own studios at 8 years old? I am not saying these young artists aren't good. Look also at the Hunter Biden's in the world. Who is really an artist and not a fake to scam unknowing buyers? With Internet running practically every part of our lives it has given me a way to post my own art to the world and continue to work daily without traveling to do workshops, book signings and gallery exhibitions. Because the selling is scary and I no longer trust. The art world has scammed me as much as the other scams out there. When I see that someone wants to buy a painting or embroidery for example, I can no longer believe that the buyer is even real let alone who they say they are. That has got to be my first assumption or, I could loose bad. I like and hate what the Internet has done to the world of art. And now when I see a piece of art I must ask, as many do, is that AI or not? When it is impossible to believe in what or who is real, and what is truth and not a , or whether an offer or buyer is real and not a scam, then hasn't selling become a dangerous game?
